FAQ
What makes your soaps different?
Everything starts with an oil infusion - herbs and botanicals. That infused oil becomes the foundation of every product made. We use one soap recipe, one process, and the same approach across the entire line.
What is botanical infusion and why does it matter?
Botanical infusion is the process of steeping dried herbs and botanicals in a carrier oil over several weeks. During that time the oil absorbs compounds from the plant, not in the same way as an extract, but in a way that changes the character of the oil itself.
Why does your soap need to cure for 4–6 weeks?
Cold process soap is made with lye, which reacts with the oils to create soap through a process called saponification. That process continues after the bar is poured and needs time to complete the process. A properly cured bar is harder, lasts longer, and lathers better than an under-cured one.
Are your products natural?
We focus on simple, high-quality ingredients and avoid unnecessary additives. The goal is to keep everything as naturally derived and gentle as possible.
Do you offer vegan options?
Yes, several products are vegan-friendly. Ingredients are clearly noted on items that contain beeswax or other animal-derived ingredients so you always know what you’re buying.
Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Our formulations are gentle and free from synthetic ingredients. We use essential oils rather than fragrance oils. That said, every person's skin is different. If you have a known sensitivity, we recommend reviewing the ingredient list and patch testing before full use.
Do your products contain common allergens?
Some formulas may include nut butters/oils, clays, or botanicals. I list all ingredients in full so you can make the best choice for your needs.
How long does a bar of soap last?
Most bars last 1-2 weeks depending on use and care. Letting your soap fully dry between each use helps extend its life.
How should I store my soap?
Keep your bar in a draining soap dish and away from standing water. For long-term storage, a cool, dry place works best.
Can I use your soap on my face?
Most bars are gentle enough for facial use, but since everyone’s skin reacts differently, it's recommended choosing the gentler varieties and doing a patch test.
How long does shipping take?
Orders usually go out within 2–3 business days. Delivery time varies by location, but most orders arrive in 4–7 days, if not sooner. You will receive a shipping notification when your order ships.
Do you ship internationally?
Not at this time, but hoping to offer this in the future as we grow.
Will my soap melt during shipping?
Bar soap holds up well to temperature changes. Products made with butters or beeswax may soften if it’s very hot during transit, but they firm back up once cooled. The softest products are only shipped during colder months to prevent melting.
What is your return policy?
Because our products are handmade and used on skin, we cannot accept returns on opened products. If your order arrives damaged or there's an issue with your product, please contact us within 7 days of receiving it and we'll make it right.
About the Name, Why is it called Salem’s Soapery?
Salem’s Soapery is named after our cat, Salem. After discovering that every name I had planned was already taken, I tried Salem’s name on a whim, it was available and went with it. What began as a moment of curiosity quickly felt meant to be. Salem has been by my side throughout this journey, and the name stuck.
Do you offer wholesale or bulk orders?
At this time, we do not offer wholesale or bulk purchasing. Keeping production small-batch allows us to focus on ingredient quality, formulation, and consistency from batch to batch. As the business grows, offerings may change.
Do you accept custom or special-event orders?
We don’t currently offer custom orders. Products are made in planned batches so they can be cured, and finished with care. This approach may shift over time as the business continues to grow.
How can I contact you?
You can reach us any time through our website or email, SalemsSoapery@gmail.com. We'll do our best to respond within 24–48 hours.
